Our History

Brothers Bill and Herb Miller founded the company in 1947 as a small basement excavation business operating with just two trucks and an end loader. Working as subcontractors throughout subdivisions in East Moline, Illinois, they quickly built a reputation for reliability and hard work. Within five years, the company had grown to a fleet of four trucks, an additional end loader, and a growing lineup of heavy equipment.

In 1968, leadership transitioned to the second generation when brothers Jeral and Joel Miller took over operations and continued expanding the business. By 1975, Jeral became sole owner, guiding the company alongside his wife, Carol Miller, while raising their three sons and maintaining a strong family-centered operation.

The third generation joined the company as well. Jarrod Miller began working in 1985, followed by his brother Justin Miller in 1989, helping carry forward the company’s hands-on tradition and commitment to quality work. Their brother Jason pursued business interests outside of the family operation.

In 2026, after 40 years of dedicated service, Jarrod Miller retired from the company. That same year, AJ Miller, son of Justin Miller and a longtime site foreman, was appointed Vice President, continuing the Miller family legacy into its fourth generation of leadership.

Today, Miller Trucking & Excavating focuses on commercial, municipal, and industrial construction projects with a strong emphasis on innovation, environmental responsibility, and efficient project delivery while continuing the values the company was built on more than 75 years ago.
